Since graduating from Exeter College of Art & Design in the 1980s with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, I continued to create and to illustrate numerous children’s books whilst juggling a corporate career. In 2017 I finally grasped the opportunity to become a full-time artist and I love it.
Today I work from my garden studio in the Wiltshire countryside and exhibit my work in solo and group shows in the South West of England.
I work mainly in oil paint and traditional printmaking methods – linocut, drypoint, mezzotint and screen print. A love of drawing underlies everything I do, so I can often be found scribbling away in my sketch books.
Being born and growing up in the beautiful Cotswold Hills, I spent my childhood immersed in the countryside; tramping through fields with my brother and grandfather as he tended his sheep. It is mainly British wildlife and farm animals which feature in my work and you will see hares, sheep, cattle and chickens popping up time and again.
My aim is to reflect my personal admiration and respect for living things, by creating artworks which capture a sense of their vital spark; to somehow elevate the subject from the ordinary or every day. I love what I do and hope some of the joy I experience when creating it, is shared with you when you look at it.
Artworks are held in private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
