Dex Hannon was born and studied in Manchester and now resides in Yorkshire. He is based at SOPA Creativa studios in Huddersfield. His work features in several private collections across the world and his work has featured in books and magazines. He was shortlisted for the 2019 Refresh Art Prize, London. In 2018 he was chosen as one of the top 50 artists for the magazine Art Share Love in 2020 his work will feature in the international book, Artfolio2020.
His work is influenced by artists such as Mark Rothko and Gerhard Richter. Working in two distinct styles; alla prima in abstract expressionism. Using contrast, through mixing of styles, techniques and bold colour choices he creates a battle for the viewer’s attention between foreground and background. A visually defined argument or discussion upon the canvas’s surface, he also works digitally, remixing the traditionally painted works to create a different take on the original painting.
