Éric Ruelland was born in France, at Saint-Germain-En-Laye, near Paris. His family is from Brittany. Painting for him is to play with chance. Éric Ruelland likes brush strokes which create sprays, defects which are not in fact defects but substance, depth. He can step up the process by inserting paper, sand, or using a knife. The colored areas thus interact, will balance one another or be unbalanced. A more recent part of his work goes to more colorful paintings. The inspiration lies in the beauty of Paris stones, in the golden limestone, worked overtime, worn, stained. It can also be the skies of Ile-de-France, his garden in Languedoc, but also the bark of trees, the lichen on the rocks.
Éric Ruelland likes paintings by Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell, Jose Guerrero, Ferdinand Hodler, Maurice Denis
