Glenda’s love of art, like most artists, came at an early age. She was only five years old when her dad re- upped in the army, so that’s when her travels started. She says she has vivid memories of her childhood back when she was only four years old. She took a trip back to her home state of Alabama a couple of years ago but said that nothing was the same. None of her run around spots was there anymore. There were only houses, which was such a heartbreaker for her. But, that’s progress, she said.

Glenda is a pure old hippie soul. “I still to this day even likes the clothes I wore back in the 70s,” she says, laughing. Glenda’s also a true lover of anything nature. Even when she paints in the abstract, there’s always a noticeable natural theme to it. She says it comes out before she also knows what the painting is going to depict, so she doesn’t fight her feelings on it at all.

When looking at her art, you’ll always see a theme in them. Her hippie mostly comes out in herbackground. She loves bright, happy colors, and it shows. The nature lover in her usually comes out in the rest of the painting. That said, she’s not afraid to step out of her comfort zone and will paint portraits if asked. She welcomes commission works of all kinds and loves a challenge!

Glenda is a self-taught artist. She says, “I’ve never, in my life, had one art lesson.” When she finally started with painting, it was total trial and error. As she said, she loves a challenge. Before realizing that she loves art with acrylics, she used a pencil, colored pencils, charcoal, and then would do a mix of up all that.

Now she’s dabbling in mixing inks in with her acrylic paintings and says she loves the effects of it! She’s also starting to dabble in mixed media, so I’m sure we’ll see more of that to come! She’s also a huge advocate for any aspiring artist to do art journaling, and NEVER, EVER tear out any mess-ups. Those are where you learn!

“I have a tough time talking about myself,” but I love talking about what I do. I’m a painter, lover of nature, and am genuinely an old hippie soul”.
