Jac Volbeda is a professional artist who has lived on the island of Baleshare, North Uist, since 2003. In 2006 he opened his guest house ‘Bagh Alluin’ where he also exhibits his work.
Jac graduated at the Royal Academie of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Holland in 1982 having been awarded the City prize for his artworks. Since graduating he has focused fully on his painting activities, creating a large and varied body of work. His paintings have been sold to many countries in Europe, America, and Australia and he has had numerous commissions from private buyers, businesses, and public sector organizations.
Jac’s approach to painting continues to evolve. Again and again, he finds inspiration for his artwork in his immediate environment and in more distant remote landscapes in Scotland. The ever-changing landscapes and colours create evocative, expressive paintings.
The inspiration that landscapes provide him with is transferred to the canvas in a robust and expressive style. The overpowering impact of the rugged Scottish scenery, as well as intriguing Spanish landscapes, are portrayed in wild vigorous gestures. However, on close examination, the paintings exhibit a multiplicity of shades of colour and subtle outlines.
Jac has exhibited in a large number of galleries and art libraries in Holland and Great Britain and several galleries in the Netherlands have his work in stock.
