A childhood full of drawing, cutting, sticking, and making, followed by a lifetime of hoarding, has led to the creation of these intricate collages. A foundation course at Cumbria College of Art and Design, led to a degree in Art and Design(printed textiles), from Edinburgh College of Art.
I spent a lot of time working on many card and gift wrap projects, in London for Paperchase, WHSmiths, and Paper D’art, which sold all over the world.l was also selling work in Liberty, London, and many other outlets.
Now, living in the Eden Valley, in rural Cumbria, l concentrate on creating original artwork .l recreate my own imaginary world, that is often inspired by the beautiful area in which l live, places l visit, the routine of everyday life; situations and subjects that tickle my imagination.
Most pieces have a strong narrative thread, which l work through as l complete the work, there are many conversations going on in each of my artworks.
Each one involves many layers-collage, paint, hand stitching (my favorite part), decorating-using buttons, beads, found objects, haberdashery treasures, with a few extra sprinkles and a bit of sparkle!
I exhibit regularly locally, in galleries (and at shows ), sometimes venturing further a field-Brighton, Northumberland, Scotland, and Yorkshire.
Many people comment on how happy my work is -which has to be a good thing. I enjoy creating these mixed media collages and love it when others enjoy what l do-loving detail l like people to look, then to come back and look again and again, always noticing something new.
