I am primarily an abstract painter, this has always been the dominant form of expression in my work, although I have an experimental approach to textures, surfaces, shape, and processes so enjoy using mixed media if relevant to an idea. The process of layering, building, and concealing is representational of how the involvement of time in my work allows my ideas to shift and fluctuate with the experiences of everyday life, enabling me to communicate an intrinsic understanding of my place and role within my human experience. Recurring themes of interest in my work are the connection between thoughts, writing, hands and mark-making, and how these result in edges, create borders, explore boundaries within our physical and psychological space, and how these things can facilitate some sort of outward communication. I feel that painting gets straight into the bloodstream before the consciousness of words or thoughts can be formed and expressed.
